Difficulty Rating:
The Sinagua Loop is a short, easy hiking trail in the Walnut Canyon National Monument near Flagstaff. This hike is easily reachable from the city, and it’s a nice pick for beginners or those with small children because of its accessible difficulty level. Dogs are permitted on this route on leash. We don’t recommend this hike in the winter because the trail gets very slippery. Expect moderate traffic.

Sinagua Loop Description
The Sinagua Loop is a beautiful hike that’s great for beginners, young kids, families, and hikers who want a quick leg stretcher in the morning or at the end of the day. This trailhead is easy to reach from the city (it’s right in Walnut Meadows) and the hike won’t take most users more than a half hour or so to complete.
We’d save this hike for the spring through the fall since it can get very icy and slick in the wintertime. Should you come out for a winter hike, consider wearing microspikes to make your hike easier.
From the trailhead, hike up the forest road to the 4-way junction and take a sharp right. At the next junction, keep left onto the Sinagua Loop. Sinagua comes from “sin agua,” (without water) which is what early explorers called this dry area.
At the next junction, bear right. Continue onto Walnut Meadows Loop. This trail will lead you back to the trailhead–just bear left at the final 4-way junction.
