Kachina Wetlands Hike Description
The Kachina Wetlands loop is a laid-back hike in between a set of ponds in Kachina Village. This loop is very easy, it’s well-marked, and it usually takes less than an hour to complete. This is a nice pick for families with young children or those who need an easier trail. Birders should definitely add this one to their list. You’ll also have a great view of Humphreys Peak and the rest of the San Francisco Peaks on this hike.
In the summertime, you may need some bug spray as the water draws mosquitoes. The ponds tend to dry out in the summer, so consider visiting in the spring.
From the trailhead, head out in between the two ponds to the far right and the two largest ponds. You’ll turn left to hike in between the largest ponds, then right to hike up to the road. Turn left here to hike south along the ponds furthest to the west. This route will lead you back to the trailhead.
