The Terwillegar Park West Loop is part of an intricate web of local trails at the base of Rabbit Hill. This loop sees the perimeter of the park while many other trails pass through the middle. It is easy to get off trail, but with so many options, you will always be able to make it back to the trailhead. The route is well-signed and follows simple terrain.
Getting there
To get to Terwillegar Park West Loop trailhead, follow AB-2 South and take the exit for Terwillegar Drive SW. Continue on Terwillegar Drive until reaching Rabbit Hill Road, where you will turn right and follow until you reach the trailhead and parking area.

Terwillegar Park West Loop Trail Description
From the parking area for Terwillegar Park West Loop trail, follow the main trail for 656ft. At this point, head right towards a human-made pond. Continue northbound to a second human-made pond that stays on a northbound trail reaching the river. Here, take a left to follow a perimeter trail that follows the river.
Find many great access points to the river here as you continue. There is generally less traffic on the west side of the park, so take your time on the second half of the trail. There is some rolling elevation travelling southbound here. The multi-use trail sees cyclists, runners, and hikers, so beware of oncoming traffic.
At the 1.9mi point, come to a junction and turn left, following signs back to the main parking lot. Many trails are intersecting on this route, so always use caution at the excessive junctions.
