The Kinsmen Park trail in Edmonton begins near the John Walter Museum and Queen Elizabeth Pool. Despite being only a one-hour hike, this area has all the recreational features to fulfill a half-day of activities. Plan accordingly; you can stay here after your hike and enjoy the park to its fullest.
Getting there
To get to the Kinsmen Park Trail, you will want to head to the John Walter Museum. Take 109 St NW over the High Level Bridge into Kinsmen Park, turning left onto Walterdale Hill Dr NW. Continue until you reach the main parking lot for the park. The parking area is next to the museum and the Kinsmen Sports Centre.

Kinsmen Park Trail Description
The Kinsmen Park Trail follows a loop around the perimeter of the park, beginning at the Walter Dale Museum. The park features a small water splash park, sports fields, playgrounds, the popular Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool, the Kinsmen Sports Centre, and of course, the museum.
From the parking area, follow signs north towards the museum, making your way to the south banks of the North Saskatchewan River. When you reach the water’s edge, you will be granted with an excellent view of the Alberta Legislature building across the water. Stay left, heading east along the river towards the High Level Bridge.
Pass the Tennis Courts and some public restrooms before reaching the bridge. Stay on the trail and come to a major trail junction. This junction leads to other parks yet has plenty of clear signs. Travel south to stay within Kinsmen Park, making your way back to the parking area.
Many intersecting trails meet here, but you won’t have trouble finding your way with the well-signed routes. Continue back to the parking area to finish the route.
