Watcombe to Oddicombe Beach Walk Description

Travelling along a beautiful and slightly rugged stretch of coastline, the Watcombe to Oddicombe Beach Walk will see you traverse some undulating terrain with several brief climbs that could prove troublesome for less-mobile walkers. Be sure to wear good walking footwear for the best traction along the trail. Additionally, you should try to arrive early, as parking is limited near the trailhead.

Although there is a bit of uneven terrain, the breathtaking views along the coast are more than enough of a reward to make this a fantastic day out on the trails. While walking the Watcombe to Oddicombe Beach Trail, you will enjoy picturesque views across the English Channel, as you make your way between scenic beaches that are perfect for laying out in the sun. Try to time this walk for a fair weather day to maximize your adventure.

Setting out from the trailhead, follow the path to the northeast, keeping left as you descend the hillside on the way to Watcombe Beach. Reaching this tranquil cove along the coast, you will be hit with a sense of relaxation, as each of the waves that crashes against the sandy shoreline tries to deter you from completing the remainder of your walk. Keeping in mind that the opposite end of the route will also come to a beautiful beach, head back along the trail and climb uphill towards the car park.

Reaching a junction, head to the left and follow the trail to the south, making your way along the undulating forest terrain of the coast that offers intermittent views across the water. After you traverse Petit Tor, follow the path as it bends to the southeast and brings you closer to the end of the trail at the water’s edge. Here, you will find beautiful views that stretch out across the vast expanse of the English channel, as well as a few optional footpaths that will lead you down to Petit Tor Beach. Additionally, extending your walk to the south will bring you directly onto Oddicombe Beach, another great spot for relaxing in the sun. Once you have fully explored the area, turn back along the trail and retrace your steps to the car park where you began the Watcombe to Oddicombe Beach Walk.
