The Walker Home Ruins via Parmalee Trail presents the ideal excuse to get the whole family out into the fresh air. Kids, adults, experienced explorers, and novice hikers alike will surely be impressed by the scenic overlooks, historical sites and stunning wilderness along the trail. Hike through lush meadows often dotted with deer, up ridges that reveal awe-inspiring sights of the foothills, and through verdant pines. This excursion is a crowd-favorite, so if you are seeking a more secluded hike, we suggest heading out in the early morning.
Begin your journey along the Walker Home Ruins via Parmalee Trail from the western trailhead. From here, track the Parmalee Trail. This path will guide you around the base of Mount Falcon, weaving hikers through the tree shade and exposed meadows. The path will eventually curve you up a forested gulch to Mount Falcon’s summit. At the intersection, veer right and trek along the Meadow Trail. Hike this route through the meadow to the John Walker House Ruins. Explore the hallow walls of the castle then trek northeast along the Castle Trail to the Summer White House Site.
Read the interpretive signs explaining John Walkers dream of a presidential oasis atop the mountain before beginning your return. When you are ready, hike west along the Castle Trail all the way back to the trailhead.
