The Frazer Meadow Trail is one of the Golden Gate Canyon State Park’s most popular adventures, and there is no doubt as to why. This stunning hike will guide adventurers through a tunnel of towering pine forests interspersed with aspens before opening to the expansive meadows. This is a great option for those hoping to see wildlife or are planning an overnight expedition as there are many dispersed campsites.

Frazer Meadow Trail Description

Hoping to see some wildlife on your nature hike? The Frazer Meadow Trail is an epic spot to see grazing elk, deer, moose, and maybe even a bear. Initially trekking through an enchanted forest, you will be lulled into a state of relaxation before hiking through the busy meadows. This is an ideal introductory hike for adventurers just getting into Front Range excursions, and for kids who need to blow off some energy! Located within the Golden Gate Canyon State Park, visitors are required to purchase a day pass to use the trails which typically costs around $10USD.

The Frazer Meadow Trail departs from the Horseshoe Trailhead. From here, track the Horseshoe Trail up a forested gulch. Admire the golden aspens you ascend the path and keep an eye out for moose hiding amongst the trees. Eventually, the path will deliver you to the meadowlands where sits your first intersection. Keep right here, hiking past several dispersed campsites. At this point, you may also get distant views of the Front Range and its foothills. Follow the path through grassy terrain as you search for grazing elk and deer. At the next junction, veer left and you will be diverted onto the Mule Deer Trail.

Trek this path past John Frazer’s old homestead—this is a good place to explore and rest before you begin your return to the trailhead. At the next intersection, reconnect with the Horseshoe Trail and at the following junction, keep left. From here, you will reconnect with the initial segment of the route that guided you through the valley. Turn right and retrace your steps all the way back to the trailhead.
