Like we said, if you have a pup or are yearning to surround yourself with dogs, then the 12 Mile Trail and Cherry Creek Loop is the perfect adventure for you! Hike through the dog off-leash area and watch the pups run around the green space, enjoying the freedom. If you hike this trail with your pup, please be respectful and pick up after them. As you track around the loop, there are several garbage cans to dispose of waste. Note that because it is an off-leash area you enter at your own risk, be mindful of others and keep your dog on-leash if needed! This path is also almost entirely unshaded, so prepare accordingly! Located within the Cherry Creek State Park, visitors are required to pay a $9USD entrance fee to utilize the network of trails.

The 12 Mile Trail and Cherry Creek Loop is a dog owner and dog lover’s oasis. This immense, fenced-in dog park is the perfect place to let your pup blow off some steam and socialize. Hike along the babbling Cherry Creek as you trek through the grassy meadowlands. Your dogs will love to explore the open plains and swim in the creek. There are also obstacles within the off-leash area that are often used for training sessions. Sections of this route also reveal sights of the Denver cityscape, how could it get any better?

Embark on your adventure along the 12 Mile Trail and Cherry Creek Loop at the dog park entrance. Hike past the gate, entering the dog park, and take the leftmost 12 Mile Trail. Trek southwest along the 12 Mile Trail along the boundary of the dog park. As you travel along the path, you will eventually be guided north. As you venture along the western boundary of the dog park you will be guided along a segment of Cherry Creek. Take your time and enjoy the sights of excited doggies exploring the meadow and views of the Denver cityscape.

Eventually, you will meet an intersection where the 12 Mile Trail exits the dog park. If you want a longer adventure, then exit the path and venture along the route. If you wish to continue along the dog park trail, merge onto the Cherry Creek Trail. Follow this path to the northwestern corner of the park, before heading east, crossing over another section of the creek. From here, continue along the boundary trail and hike south along the path and over another finger of the creek before being delivered back to the trailhead. Your return to the trailhead marks the end of your exciting canine-filled adventure!
