Sheeps Tor Walk Description
If you are looking at a map, the Sheeps Tor Walk might look like a steep climb up to the summit; however, the route climbs gradually along the lower slopes of the hill before the final, short push to the summit. This makes for a pleasant adventure with some beautiful views overlooking the Burrator Reservoir and surrounding hilly terrain of nearby tors. Even though it isn’t overly challenging, you should still make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes for the best footing along the trail.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way east along the road as it passes by the two dam walls along the southern edge of the Burrator Reservoir before breaking off onto a footpath to the northeast. From here, you will begin your climb by passing a small section of forest on your left and pushing on through the rugged terrain of the tor. Reaching the top of the hill, you will enjoy some lovely views across the vast expanse of Dartmoor National Park spread out before you. After pausing at the summit, you can make your descent along the same path to retrace your footsteps on the way back to the trailhead.
