Walking the Oke Tor Circular from Belstone is a great activity that will expose you to some rugged terrain, but also beautifully scenic views of the surrounding moorland terrain. Located in the northern part of Dartmoor National Park, this trail will lead you along the East Okement River and see you climb uphill to the the summit of Oke Tor before making your return along the banks of the River Taw. This trail can be a bit tricky to navigate at times, so be sure to bring a GPS in order to stay on course.

Getting there

To get from Okehampton to the Oke Tor Circular Walk trailhead in Belstone, drive east on Fore Street/B3260 for 2.4mi and turn right. Continue on for 0.7mi to find the car park on the left.

Oke Tor Circular Walk from Belstone Description

Even though it may be a bit challenging to navigate, the Oke Tor Circular Walk from Belstone makes for a great day on the trails, especially when you consider that the start/end point of the walk is located right near the Tors Inn, a fantastic place to grab some drinks. Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the southwest through Belstone, following along the lane as it traverses the undulating hillside to the summit of Scarey Tor. From here, you will head south along the banks of the East Okement River before the route climbs uphill to the top of Oke Tor. Take some time to enjoy the sweeping views of the moor that spread out in every direction before turning your attention to the northeast for a steep descent along the hillside. After meeting up with the River Taw, follow it to the northeast and enjoy the views of the Knattaborough, Winter, and Belstone tors on your left, as you make your return to the car park where you began.
