The Surprise Canyon Trail is a beautiful little out-and-back hike in Capitol Reef National Park. The trail is quite rugged and has some sandy and rocky sections, so wear proper hiking footwear when you head out on this route. The Surprise Canyon Trail sees little-traffic compared to the more popular hikes surrounding Fruita. If you are looking for a little slice of the desert wilderness all to yourself, the Surprise Canyon Trail is a great place for you.
From the trailhead, follow the trail southwest over Halls Creek and into Surprise Canyon. Enjoy your time exploring the wonders of this little canyon before turning around and following the same route back to the trailhead.
