Strike Valley Overlook Trail Description

The Strike Valley Overlook Trail is a fantastic hike over gorgeous terrain in a low-traffic area of Capitol Reef National Park. The access road to the trailhead is rugged and requires a vehicle with decent clearance and 4WD. If you don’t have such a car or truck, there is an earlier pull off parking spot for 2WD/low clearance vehicles and you can bike or hike your way along the access road to the trailhead. The Strike Valley Overlook trail is shared by hikers and OHV/ATV drivers, so keep an eye and an ear out while you are hiking and allow folks with wheels to pass you by. The hike to the Strike Valley Overlook is almost as beautiful as the overlook itself. On this trail, you’ll find yourself constantly wowed by the desert terrain, and the overlook itself will give you dramatic views of Capitol Reef below.

From the trailhead, follow the OHV trail north. Keep an eye out for three arches along the trail before you reach a divide. Take a right at the divide and hike the last rugged section up to the overlook.

Take a rest at the Strike Valley Overlook and soak in the epic views of the Utah desert below. When you are ready to turn back, follow the same trail out to the trailhead.
