The Red Canyon Trail is a beautiful low-traffic hike in Capitol Reef National Park. This hike begins and ends at the Cedar Mesa Campground off of Notom-Bullfrog road with absolutely breathtaking views. The Red Canyon Trail is a great way to wind down after supper before crawling into your sleeping bag for a night under the Utah stars.

Red Canyon Trail Description

The Red Canyon Trail is a relatively flat, family-friendly hike in Capitol Reef National Park. Even though this trail is short, be sure to bring along lots of water, and prepare yourself for the heat of the desert with sunscreen and a good sunhat before heading out. This hike begins and ends at the Cedar Mesa Campground and can be a great way to get out and do some exploring before making camp. The Red Canyon Trail can be lots of fun for kids of all ages as there is so much to see and explore in this gorgeous area of Capitol Reef National Park.

From the Cedar Mesa Campground, follow the well defined trail southwest. The trail officially ends at the first canyon.

If you have time, you can continue along the creekbed to explore the box canyon just a mile southwest before turning around and heading back the way you came.
