The Creag Choinnich Walk is a great family-friendly walking route in Cairngorms National Park that will lead you to the summit of a forested hill for beautiful views. While out walking the trail, you wil;l climb up to the summit of Creag Choinnich for some beautiful views of the surrounding area, before looping around the hill to visit the 17th Century Braemar Castle. Although there is a bit of uphill walking, this is a fantastic route for the entire family to enjoy.

Creag Choinnich Walk Description

If you are looking for a fairly short adventure in Cairngorms National Park that offers a mixture of natural and historic views, then the Creag Choinnich Walk will be the perfect route for you. This quick and relatively easy walk features a hilltop viewpoint and the chance to visit an historic castle.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way east through the forest to immediately begin climbing uphill. After reaching the summit of Creag Choinnich, you will enjoy some wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, including nearby forests and the village of Braemar below.

Descending to the southeast, you will follow the path as it continues through the woodland terrain and loops around the northern slope of the hill, where you will pass by Braemar Castle, a 17th Century fortification that is owned by the chief of Clan Farquharson. From here, you will head south along the slope of the hill to arrive back at the starting point of your walk.
