Crooked River Trail Descritpion

This riverside stroll is one of the most scenic adventures in the Boise National Park. Open and accessible year-round, with a pair of snowshoes in the winter, the Crooked River Trail travels past beautiful wildflower displays and through lush pine stands whilst offering incredible views of the wild river below. While this path is family-friendly, it is important to note that there are a few steep segments and precipitous drop-offs, so keep a close eye on little ones. Additionally, this route becomes unstable with mud in the spring, so careful footing and a pair of boots with good traction are necessary.

Your adventure begins from the trailhead off Crooked River Road. Setting out from here, the path travels southward into the river valley. Soon after your departure, the river will bend before straightening back out, and the path will gently undulate along the wooded riverbanks. Minding your footing on the rocky and uneven terrain, the route will reward you with pleasant wildflowers and incredible views of the rock-bound river.

Note: this route travels through the canyon for miles, all the way to the N Fork Boise River, though we stopped just before Steep Creek. Whenever you are ready to return, simply head back the way you came, retracing your footing to the trailhead.
