Burnt Lake Trail Description
The Burnt Lake Trail is a charming route in the Wind River Range that boasts a tranquil experience. This lightly trafficked trail wanders through mixed woodlands and low-lying brush to the shoreline of the alpine pool. Abundant with a diversity of flora and fauna, it is important to keep an eye out for wildlife as you trek. At least one person in your group should carry a can of bear spray, just in case! Note the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, so a vehicle with high ground clearance is recommended.
Your wonderful trek to Burnt Lake begins from the trailhead off Burnt Lake Road. Setting out from here, the path will progress through a swathe of meadowlands before climbing beneath the canopy of mixed pines. After some hiking, you will pass back into a patch of exposed terrain, passing a pond before diving back beneath the tree shade. From here, the path will steeply descend eastwardly, down to the shoreline of Burnt Lake. From here, the Burnt Lake Trail will redirect you north, climbing up a ridge above the lake.
Mind your footing as you navigate the vertiginous terrain, and let the anticipation of the epic views from the overlook motivate you. When you ultimately reach the overlook, you will be granted impressive views of the crystalline lake and bounding granite bluffs. Admire the breathtaking scenery, then head back to the trailhead the way you came.
