Old Mount Baldy Trail Description
For those who want to test the limits of their physical fitness and experience some truly stunning views that stretch out across the Southern California landscape, the Old Mount Baldy Trail is an excellent option to explore. Created in the 1880s as a means to reach a potential, but never realized, observatory at the summit, this trail is still a great way to get out into the San Gabriel Mountains.
Setting out from the Mount Baldy Visitor Center, you will follow Bear Canyon Drive to the northwest, before picking up the trail as it leads north into the mountains. Here, you will pass through Bear Flats, before the trail begins to seriously steepen on the way up to the summit.
With the top of Mount San Antonio in your sights, you will continue working your way uphill to the northeast to be met with some incredible landscape views. After reveling in the sights, carefully head back down along the same trail to make a return into the trailhead.
