Skull Crack Trail Description
The Skull Crack Trail is a gorgeous hike in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Unfortunately, this trail can get quite muddy and icy in the early season. If you are hiking in the early spring, we recommend wearing waterproof hiking boots and bringing along a set of traction devices for extra grip. Though this route is open and accessible year-round, it is most popular in the late summer when the Kokanee Salmon run can be seen from the trail. Besides just the salmon, this hike is a great place to see moose, deer, and bald eagles who live in the area. If you are lucky enough to spot forest wildlife, do not feed them and be sure to admire them from a safe distance.
To hike the Skull Crack Trail, begin at the Causey Boat Launch and follow the path north, then east along the south shore of the Causey Reservoir. At the eastern tip of the reservoir, the trail will end; at this point, simply turn back and retrace your steps to the trailhead where you began.
