The White House Hike is an adventure that will please outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The scenic meadow-laden trail will guide hikers up to the Summer White House Site, an idea proposed by John Walker. Walker, who also had a ranch atop Mount Falcon, got architectural mock-ups for a proposed Summer House for US presidents. Summer White House Hike Description
The Summer White House Hike is one of many variations of trails in Mount Falcon Park. This particular excursion will guide adventurers through pine forests interspersed with aspens, through lush meadows, and past castle ruins all before arriving at the culmination at the Summer White House Site. This area is an extremely popular hiking area near Denver, so you will likely be sharing the path with fellow outdoor enthusiasts! Note that there is also a good chance of spotting deer or elk, so keep an eye out!
Beginning from the trailhead, track the castle trail east. Ascend the path through the grassy terrain dotted with the odd pine. Enjoy sights of the Front Range foothills as you climb. Maintain along the Castle Trail, keeping left at the first two intersections. Soon the trail will pass the ruins of John Walkers Ranch. Check out the remains of the structure and continue east along the path. Keeping left again at the next few junctions, the Castle Trail will eventually deliver you to the Summer White House Site.
Enjoy the sights from here and read the interpretive signs explaining Walker’s dream. Revel in the views and when you are done exploring the site, simply retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
