Elsdon Valley Trail Description
Whether the aim of your walk is to simply get some fresh air in the countryside to clear your head or to visit some fascinating historical sites, including a Medieval motte and bailey castle, the Elsdon Valley Trail will be sure to meet your needs.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the east and cross over a bridge to leave the village of Elsdon behind. Here, you will follow along the road as it eventually leads to the southeast to cross over Whiskershiel Burn, before turning to the southwest to cut across the open countryside. Take some time here to fully experience the beauty of the Northumberland fields, eventually meeting up with a lane near a farm.
After reaching the southwest corner of the route at a junction, you will head right and follow the road downhill, crossing back over Whiskershiel Burn on the way into Elsdon. Here, you will pass through the charming village streets and can take some time exploring the various Medieval sites, such as the motte and bailey castle just north of the trailhead where you started.
