Contact Mine Trail Description
As the Contact Mine Trail is within the desert environment of Joshua Tree National Park, it is important that you properly prepare yourself for the conditions. Ensure that you bring enough water, as it is scarce to nonexistent throughout the route. Shade is also limited throughout the Contact Mine Trail, so it is recommended you protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen and a good hat.
With your vehicle parked, locate the Contact Mine Trail at the southern section of the parking lot. Follow the trail to the southwest over terrain that gradually increases in elevation. The path will begin to head west through craggy terrain as it becomes steeper, and the elevation continues to increase. After veering to the south shortly, the trail heads in a northwestern direction.
You will soon arrive at a plateau where the route’s namesake, the Contact Mine, will be visible. Take your time as you examine the many historical artifacts found throughout the abandoned site. Once you have thoroughly explored, retrace your steps back towards the trailhead.
