Pen-y-Ghent and Plover Hill Walk

Whether you are looking to summit the third highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales after already climbing Ingleborough and Whernside, or to check out the largest natural hole in England, the Pen-y-Ghent and Plover Hill Walk is an amazing trail that is filled with interesting highlights and beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Setting out from the trailhead in the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, you will make your way to the east and cross over the River Ribble before climbing uphill across the rugged moor to the northeast. After a steep push up to the summit of Pen-y-Ghent, you will enjoy a commanding view over the Yorkshire Dales, and Ribblesdale in particular.

From here, you will continue on to the northeast to traverse the summit of Plover Hill, before descending the steep hillside. Keep left here to work your way to the southeast and pass by Hull Pot, the largest natural hole in England, where you just might see some adventurous people abseiling down the sheer rock faces. Continue to the southwest to traverse the moor on the final leg of the walk that will bring you back into the village.
