The West Witton and Aysgarth Circular Walk is an exceptional route in Yorkshire Dales National Park, as it allows you to view a number of waterfalls in one afternoon. While out on the trail, you will traverse the open countryside and head downhill to view the Cauldron Falls in West Burton before visiting the Lower, Middle, and High Aysgarth forces. Some sections of this route might be busy with sightseers, but it is a small price to pay to take in such beautifully scenic views!
Getting there
To get to the trailhead for the West Witton to Aysgarth Circular Walk from Leyburn, head to the southwest on Wensley Road for 3.7mi. You will need to find parking somewhere nearby.

If you are a big fan of waterfalls and find yourself in Yorkshire Dales National Park, then you won’t want to miss out on the West Witton to Aysgarth Circular Walk. With a fairly long overall distance and moderate elevation along an undulating trail, this walk will require some effort; however the stunning views of the powerful falls and the picturesque countryside setting is more than enough of a reward.
Setting out from the trailhead in West Witton, you will head south to climb up the hillside through charming fields before turning to the west along High Lane. After traversing this quiet country lane, you will descend the steep hillside into West Burton, stopping off at the serene location of the Cauldron Falls. After sitting by this enchanting pool of water and taking in the views, head northwest through the village to continue on your journey.
Heading to the north, you will cross over Bishopdale Beck and climb back uphill pasx the Church of St Andrew to reach the viewpoints overlooking the High, Middle, and Lower Aysgarth forces. From here, follow the banks of the River Ure to the northeast to pass by another waterfall, Redmire Force. Shortly after this, you will turn to the southeast and make your way across the open countryside on the return to the trailhead in West Witton.
