Embsay Crag Walk Description

Featuring a nice bit of uphill walking and a lovely stretch of trail along the water’s edge, the Embsay Crag Walk is a fantastic option if you are looking for a short, but varied route. Terrain here isn’t overly difficult, although you will need to work your way uphill along the moor to reach the stunning viewpoint from atop the Embsay Crag. Even still, the sweeping sightline over the surrounding moorland and vibrant green countryside below make it worth the effort.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northwest along the road and follow the trail as it skirts around the shores of the Embsay Reservoir. After enjoying the views across the calm surface of the water, you will climb up the rugged hillside to the east to reach the summit of Embsay Crag. From here, you will have some excellent views of the moor stretching out before you to the north, as well as the reservoir and the town of Skipton to the south. From here, you will briefly traverse the hilltop to the east, before making a quick descent along the hillside to return to the trailhead.
