The Semer Water and Marsett Walk is a great adventure in the Yorkshire Dales that will lead you uphill for stunning views overlooking a lake and the surrounding landscape of the park. While out on the trail, you will loop around the charming shores of Semer Water and climb uphill across the moor for some truly spectacular views. This is a nice moderate-length route that is suitable for a wide variety of walkers.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Semer Water and Marsett Walk from Bainbridge, head southwest on Cam High Road for 0.6mi and make a slight left to continue on for 0.2mi. Follow the road to the right to continue along Marsett Lane for 1.1mi, making a left to stay on the road. After 0.3mi, turn right to enter the car park.

Semer Water and Marsett Walk Description

If you are after a beautifully scenic walking route in Yorkshire Dales National Park that features a bit of uphill walking without making the route too difficult overall, then the Semer Water and Marsett Walk is a great option. Beautiful views of the vibrant green countryside, calm lakes, and charming villages await on this lovely adventure.

Setting out from the car park on the eastern shore of Semer Water, you will make your way initially to the southeast along the road before turning off onto a footpath leading to the southwest. Here, you will walk along the scenic shores of Semer Water and gaze out across the calm surface of the lake.

After traversing the open countryside to the southwest, you will pass through the charming village of Marsett, before making the fairly steep, but achievable climb uphill across the moor. Reaching the top, you will head to the northeast and enjoy stunning views across the Yorkshire Dales and Semer Water below, eventually descending the hillside on the return back to the car park.
