The Mud Lake Hike is a 2.4mi loop trail near Powell River, BC, that meanders through a moss-covered forest that surrounds a small but scenic lake. The primary scenery along the trail is that of a picturesque forest setting, complete with old wooden bridges and moss-covered trees. The trail itself is made up of relatively flat pathways through the forest; however, there are some stairs along the route that could impede mobility for some hikers.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Mud Lake Hike from Powell River, head north on Manson Avenue for 1.5mi and turn right onto Cassiar Street. After 984ft, turn left on Yukon Avenue and follow it for 0.6mi before turning right on Haslam Street. After 2297ft, turn right onto Haslam Lake Road and continue along it for 0.8mi. Turn right to stay on the road for another 3.0mi, where you will make a left onto Duck Lake Brach 1/Larson Landing Road. After 1.4mi, you will find the trailhead on the left.

Mud Lake Trail Description
The Mud Lake Hike is a fantastic half-day trekking option that is easily accessible and features family-friendly terrain in a beautiful forest setting. As mentioned above, there are some stairs and step-up bridges along the route, which would restrict access for less mobile hikers and families with strollers. The trail passes through a wonderfully atmospheric forest setting that will feel almost magical if you can time your hike for just after a good rainfall. Along the loop, you will have access to a few viewpoints where you can gaze out over the tranquil waters of Mud Lake before wrapping up your hike back at the trailhead.
