Yew Lake Loop

The Yew Lake Loop is a great hike to do as an afternoon family trip to get outside of the city and enjoy nature. The trail is easily accessible and the area around the marshy lake consists of flat terrain that is perfect for young children or people with limited mobility. Just be sure to leave your four-legged family members at home, as the lake is an ecologically sensitive area and dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted on the trail.

The trail is located in a sub-alpine meadow and has a series of educational signs that help visitors to learn about the ecology of the area. These include facts about the lake and the different types of trees that can be found in Cypress Provincial Park. The trail also extends on a short loop through a stand of beautiful old-growth forest.

To set off on the trail, make your way past the Cypress Creek Lodge, turning right at the series of two junctions. Continue counterclockwise along the trail, turning left at the next junction and crossing over Cypress Creek. Shortly after the creek, there will be another fork in the trail. Follow it left to make your way through the meadow and towards Yew Lake.

As you pass by the lake on your left, you will reach a junction in the trail leading to the right. Follow this path to get to the stand of old-growth forest and take a few minutes to absorb the information that is posted about these beautiful and ancient trees.

After completing the short loop, make your way back to the main trail, turning right at the junction to continue on your way around Yew Lake. Next to the lake, there is a picnic area where you can stop for a quick snack and explore the area. After taking in the sights of the marshy landscape, continue along the trail to complete the Yew Lake Loop and return to the parking lot.
