The Old Buck and Bridle Trail Loop is an amalgamation of the Old Buck, Bridle, and Baden Powell trails that create a forested 3.8mi loop in Mount Seymour Provincial Park. Popular with hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts, this trail has some technical bits with exposed roots and rocks, as well as a dense forest cover, making it a great option to stay in the shade on a hot day. Hikers can also explore the network of trails within the loop to extend their hike—just make sure to bring a trail map for navigation.

Getting there

To get to the Old Buck trailhead from Vancouver, drive north on BC-1 and cross the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge. Take exit 22B onto Mount Seymour Parkway, keeping on it for 2.7mi before turning left onto Mount Seymour Road. After 2789ft, turn left onto Anne Macdonald Way and the parking area will be on your immediate right.

The Old Buck and Bridle Trail Loop is a 3.8mi route in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve that is rated as moderate, both in its difficulty and in the amount of foot traffic that it receives. The area is home to a large network of trails, so be sure to follow the posted route signs and bring a trail map to keep on the right path.

A patchwork trail containing sections of the Old Buck, Baden Powell, and Bridle trails, this route is fairly rocky and technical, making it popular with both hikers and mountain bikers. Be sure to keep one eye out for passing mountain bikes and the other on the trail to watch your footing. This route doesn’t contain any scenic views, but it does run through a beautiful stretch of West Coast forest that will keep you shaded on a hot day.
