Jade Lakes Trail Description
The hike up to the Jade Lakes is an incredible route within Mount Revelstoke National Park that produces amazing views without a ton of effort. This moderate trail does contain an elevation gain of 3688ft; however, this is focused mainly into the area just before you approach the lakes, as you have to climb up and down a steep ridge. For the most part, the rest of the terrain isn’t overly technical and makes for a nice, long-distance hike in the Revelstoke area.
Setting out from the parking lot next to Balsam Lake, follow the trail to the northeast to make your way past Heather Lake and into the dense tree cover. This section of the route is largely forested but has some intermittent areas of meadow. Eventually, you will reach Miller Lake and turn right at a junction towards the Jade Lakes. This is the part of the trail that is the most difficult, as it begins to climb up and over a steep ridge. From atop the ridge, you will have amazing views overlooking the lakes and rugged mountains that stretch out into the backcountry of the park. Carefully descend the ridge to make your way down to the edge of the Jade Lakes. From here, spend some time exploring the area or setting up camp if you are staying the night before heading back along the same trail to return to the trailhead at the summit of Mount Revelstoke.
