For those outdoor enthusiasts that also enjoy taking in a bit of history while out on the trail, the Three Monuments Walk might just be the perfect route. Setting out from the village of Baslow, the trail visits a number of interesting historical sites that include Chatsworth House, the seat of the Duke of Devonshire; Nelson’s Monument to the victory at Trafalgar, Wellington’s Monument to the victory at Waterloo, and the Three Ships that have the names of three of Nelson’s ships carved into them. There is a lot of history packed into this trail and there is no time like the present to explore it!
Getting there
To reach the car park for the Three Monuments Walk from Calver, head east on Kingsgate/A623 for 2.0mi and take the second exit at the roundabout onto Church Lane. Keep on for 400ft and take the first exit at the roundabout to continue for another 0.3mi. Make a slight right here and you will find the car park on your right in 190ft.

Three Monuments Walk Description
As mentioned, the Three Monuments Walk is a fantastic trail for those who love history, but it also features some amazing views that sweep across the picturesque terrain of the Peak District. Setting out from the village of Baslow, follow the trail south to pass by Chatsworth House and the grand estate that has been in the Cavendish family since 1549. After viewing the magnificent structure, make your way to the east to climb uphill and cross over the road near The Robin Hood Inn. Follow the trail north along Birchen Edge, taking in the elevated views over the countryside before arriving at Nelson’s Monument and the Three Ships. After exploring the area and brushing up on your history, continue north to cross over the road and turn left on a course for Wellington’s Monument. Here, you can visit the monument and check out nearby Eagle Stone, before continuing downhill through the countryside to return to the car park in Baslow.
