Walking the Curbar Edge Circular is a fantastic experience due to the little required effort and spectacular views that overlook the Derwent Valley in the Peak District. While out on the trail, you will walk along three different escarpments: Curbar Edge, Froggatt Edge, and White Edge; all of which offer a great sightline over the picturesque Derbyshire countryside. The easy terrain and beautiful views make this walk a perfect option for a leisurely weekend stroll.
Getting there
To reach the car park for the Curbar Edge Circular Walk from Calver, head east on Kingsgate/A623 for 0.5mi and turn left. After 0.1mi, turn left again onto Curbar Lane and follow it for 0.3mi to continue straight onto Bar Road for another 0.5mi. Here, the road will turn right and become Clodhall Lane. You will find the car park on the left in 0.4mi.

Curbar Edge Circular Walk Description
The Curbar Edge Circular Walk is a fairly laid-back route, but that doesn’t mean that you can completely let your guard down. The trail features some small changes in elevation, as well as some rocky/rugged terrain that could still pose a problem for walkers of limited mobility. Make sure to wear decent walking footwear for this journey and exercise caution when travelling along the edges.
Setting out from the car park, make your way northwest along the trail as it follows closely along the rocky expanse of Curbar Edge. As with most craggy escarpments in the Peak District, it is not uncommon to spot rock climbers traversing the rugged terrain along the escarpment. Continue walking along the edge and make your way over any rugged stretches of terrain as you enjoy the views that stretch out over the Derwent Valley below and the undulating hills of the Peak District beyond.
Asd you make your way above the village of Froggatt, you will transition from the Curbar Edge to the Froggatt edge; however, the terrain that you will experience will be much the same. Enjoy the views overlooking Froggatt Wood, as you make your way past the remnants of a Bronze Age stone circle. Make your way over the road and continue along the trail for a while before turning to the east to cross back over the road and begin the climb up to the White Edge.
Once you are at the top of the escarpment, head south along the trail and follow along the edge for some better views from an even higher elevation. Keep straight along the trail as it cuts across the terrain of the moor before turning to the south west on a course for the car park where you began the walk.
