Algonquin Provincial Park
Established in 1893, Algonquin is the oldest provincial park in Canada and features a beautiful, yet rugged landscape characterized by stunning forests, picturesque lakes, and diverse wildlife. Old growth forests in the area are estimated to date back over 600 years and a variety of large mammals, such as moose, black bear, and wolves make up but a fraction of the rich biodiversity that can be experienced here. As interest in the park continues to grow, so does tourism, with the park seeing over 800,000 visitors per year.
A popular destination for a variety of year-round activities, Algonquin Provincial Park offers over 1,200 campsites along the main throughway, ON-60, as well as 100 others along the northern and easton edges of the park. When combined with the nearly endless possibilities for backcountry camping throughout the park, you can rest assured that a trip to Algonquin will allow you to explore the natural beauty of the park in your own way and at your own pace. Whether you are looking to hike the easily accessible trails along the highway or set out on a canoe trip through the backcountry, an adventure in Algonquin Provincial Park is sure to create a lifetime of memories.
