Kananaskis Trail

Region in Kananaskis Country, Alberta
Kananaskis Trail Map

The Kananaskis is a special place, and deserves to be more popular. The region along the Kananaskis Trail (Highway 40) offers easy access and incredible outdoor options year-round. Whether you want to hike, bike, ski, backpack or climb, you’ll find great options in the Kananaskis.

The Kananaskis (or K-Country) are a series of provincial parks south of Banff National Park. While not well known outside of Alberta, some of the best hiking, biking and skiing can be found here. Though lacking tourist facilities, this wild park captivates visitors with stunning views and activities for all ages.

In winter the southern half of the Kananaskis Trail (Highway 40) is closed, meaning you cannot access the pretty Highwood Pass region. There is still an abundance to do in winter, including hiking, snowshoeing, XC skiing, downhill skiing and ski touring.
