Wawona Lodge to Mariposa Grove Hike

Seeking a more secluded experience in Wawona Valley? The Wawona Lodge to Mariposa Grove Trail is a secluded adventure that travels from the famous Wawona Lodge to the boundary of Mariposa Grove. Enjoy the scenery and the tranquility of this hidden gem. Note that due to the trail’s unpopularity it is overgrown and there are often tree falls to navigate, but that’s all part of the fun! Open year-round and accessible to horseback riders, this versatile trail is a keeper! Note: the National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional details.

Setting out from Wawona Hotel, the Wawona Lodge to Mariposa Grove Hike travels east into the woodlands. Departing from the trailhead, the path will gradually climb uphill and will be sure to get your blood pumping! Follow the path as it weaves between wildflower abundant meadowlands and verdant forests adorned with granite outcrops. Be mindful of passers-by as you hike! Eventually, the terrain will demand the navigation of several switchbacks up into Mariposa Grove.

At the trail’s end you will be drawn to explore the busy grove of giant sequoias. Be sure to wander through the cluster of ancient trees if you have enough gas left in the tank! When you are ready to head back, simply retrace your steps along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
