Settle and Victoria Cave Trail Description
If you are after a fun walk in the Yorkshire Dales that is packed full of ultra-scenic views of the surrounding landscape, then the Settle and Victoria Cave Walk is the perfect option for a great day on the trails. The trail also only features a small amount of elevation gain, making it suitable for beginner and casual walkers.
Setting out from the trailhead in the town of Settle, you will make your way to the northeast and climb up the hillside, keeping to the left to work your way to the north side of the hill. From here, you will make the gradual climb further uphill, taking in the views of two Yorkshire peaks (Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough) before arriving at the site of the Albert and Victoria Caves.
When these caves were discovered, animal remains dating back 130,000 years were found, in addition later layers featuring Roman artifacts. After checking out the entrance to the caves, follow the trail as it leads you past the rugged terrain of the Warrendale Knotts before descending the hillside on the way back to Settle.
