Richmond and Easby Abbey Walk

Whether you are looking to take in some beautifully scenic views along the River Swale or are trying to immerse yourself in some local history by visiting the interesting historical sites on offer along this route, the Richmond and Easby Abbey Walk will provide you an afternoon of great fun and beautiful scenery.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way east along the banks of the River Swale and be immediately inundated with views of the 11th Century Richmond Castle. Don’t worry if you are wanting a closer view, as the return leg of the walk will utilize the opposite bank of the river and pass right by the ruins. Continue along the river’s edge and enjoy the beautiful views across the water, losing yourself in this charming riverside setting until you cross over to the opposite bank and arrive at the Easby Abbey.

Take some time to explore the historic 12th Century religious building before following the trail to the west along the banks of the River Swale. After making your way through the streets of Richmond, you will arrive at the ruins of the historic castle and nearby gardens. After taking in the views, you will make your way back towards the water’s edge and cross over the bridge on the return to the trailhead.
