Leyburn and Harmby Circular Walk Description
The Leyburn and Harmby Circular Walk is a beautiful place to explore, but it can be quite muddy and boggy in certain areas during the wetter months, so ensure that you are prepared with the appropriate footwear.
This walk takes you through the English countryside and displays the Yorkshire Dales National Park’s beauty. Spend an afternoon walking along this mostly flat terrain and revel in the beautiful views. You will also discover a rushing waterfall and large quarry along your journey.
Beginning at the Leyburn Market Place, head towards the Zebra Crossing located on High Street. Continue along the path towards King’s Head pub and turn left into Grover Square near the pub. Cross the road and walk towards Grove House bed and breakfast. Turn right and go into the grounds of Thornborough Hall.
You will pass the library and head towards a grassy path, and then walk towards the steps in front of an OAP development on your left. You will enter Thornborough Wood, follow the path up the steps that lead to houses of Woodburn Drive. Head towards the end of the road and then head left onto Richmond Road. You will see a roundabout near Wensleydale School, where you will cross it and follow the (jitty) path through the Dale Grove housing development. Moving straight along, navigate the stile and head out into the field.
Heading through another fate, walk towards the farmhouse, and you will see a wooden gate that is sitting between two trees. Pass through two stiles located here and then walk into the road and follow it to the Lower Wensleydale Caravan Park, which you will pass and come to the quarry where you can observe an abundance of wildlife.
Coming to a railway bridge after exploring the quarry, you will head right to Bedale Road, and you will come across the Pheasant pub. Crossing the road here, you will wander down Harmby Bank, where you will see the marvellous Harmby Waterfall. When you have finished taking in this magnificent sight, continue walking downhill to the road and head left towards the path by Mickley House. Pass through the gate, and you will end up in a planted area, pass another fate and follow the lane through the field towards Craken House Farm. Go through the gate that will take you to the Craken House private road and head towards Middleham Road.
Through another gate, you will arrive at Middleham Road and turn right across the road, through a stile and into the field. Navigate your final stile and head through the field, and you will see Leyburn Parish Church, which you will walk towards and take the path between bungalows that will appear. Next, head towards the railway bridge, walk over it and come to Bedale Road, which you will turn left on and arrive back at the Leyburn Market Place where you started as this is a circuit walk.
