Aysgarth to Castle Bolton Walk Description

A good variety of terrain, scenic views and the chance to break away from the trail to visit a 14th Century fortification all await on the Aysgarth to Castle Bolton Walk. While there is a small amount of uphill walking along the route, this is easily managed, making the walk suitable for a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the Yorkshire Dales.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the northeast along the banks of the River Ure, taking in the scenic views of several waterfalls as you head through the forest. After breaking out of the tree cover, you will climb gently uphill across the open countryside, eventually reaching the edge of the road near the village of Low Bolton.

If you would like to visit the 14th Century Bolton Castle, head straight across the road and make your way further uphill to view its grand stone construction. If not, make your way west here and follow the road for a short distance before breaking off to the southwest. Following the route downhill, you will eventually meet back up with the section of trail from the initial part of your journey, which you can follow all the way back to the car park.
