Lava Creek Canyon Trail to Undine Falls Description

The Lava Creek Trail to Undine Falls is a gorgeous route in Yellowstone National Park. This trail can be accessed year-round but is best hiked between May and October. If you do visit in the winter, wearing snowshoes or traction devices is strongly recommended. It is common for hikers to encounter wildlife on this trail, including elk and bison. As with any hike in Yellowstone, it is possible that you will encounter bears. Before you set out on your hike, make sure that everyone in your hiking party is familiar with bear safety protocols. At least one member of your group should carry bear spray and know how to use it properly. If you do encounter wild animals, do not approach or feed them and be sure to admire them from a safe distance. Undine Falls themselves are stunning 60ft tall cascading waterfalls along the mighty Lava Creek. Be sure to pack a camera; this trail is stunning at every turn.

Beginning at the Lava Creek Trailhead, follow the trail east for a few hundred yards, then take the path on your right. Stick to the path as it traces the Gardner River southeast, then follows Lava Creek east to Undine Falls.

Be sure to stop at the falls and soak in the incredible beauty of these cascades. When you are ready to head home, simply retrace your steps back to the Lava Creek Trailhead, where you began.
