Whiskey Mountain Trail Description
Charge your camera because the Whiskey Mountain Trail is incredibly photogenic. Conveniently located off the highway near Dubois, WY, this route has remained relatively undiscovered, so we thought we would share it with you! Boasting breathtaking scenery along the entirety of the trek, the exposed terrain at high elevations warrants extreme weather conditions. Dress in layers, check the forecast, and try to summit before noon to mitigate the chances of getting caught in an afternoon storm! As with all hikes in the area, it is important to be bear aware. Make sure at least one person in your party carries a can of bear spray.
Embark on your adventure along the Whiskey Mountain Trail from the Ross Lake Trailhead. Setting out from here, you will be guided west, past the Whiskey Basin. Traveling through meadows and the odd tree stand, you will eventually encounter an intersection, keep right here, and you will be diverted southwardly, climbing up to Noon Rocks. Marvel at the marvelous panoramas as you climb. After some hiking, you will reach another junction; this time, stay left, merging onto the Whiskey Mountain Trail.
Wander this path up to Whiskey Mountain and to the subsequent intersection, which marks your turnaround point. Here you will be rewarded with impressive views of the mountainous landscape and the charming lakes that decorate them. When you are ready, head back along the path the way you came to the trailhead.
