Douglas Spring to Three Tank Trail Junction Description

The Douglas Spring to Three Tank Trail Junction hike explores the northern edge of Tucson’s Saguaro National Park East. This park is a favorite for hikers in Tucson for its higher-elevation trails (in comparison to Saguaro National Park West) and classic desert views. This section of the Douglas Spring Trail is a much quicker, much easier undertaking than the full length of the route.

Bring lots of water with you and try to avoid hiking in the heat of the day if you can. Expect the possibility of horse traffic on this trail- remember to give riders the right of way and announce yourself from behind if you need to pass.

From the trailhead, take Douglas Spring Trail east past Scotts Knob, which will be on your left. Take in the cacti, the mountain views, and the rugged landscape. You’ll follow a short canyon for most of the route, following the line of the wash to an open clearing. This is where the route ends at a T-junction with Three Tank Trail. From here, turn around and retrace your steps.
