Ben Nevis by Càrn Mòr Dearg Walk Description

The Ben Nevis by Càrn Mòr Dearg Walk makes for an iconic, unforgettable day, where your feet will carry you atop two Munros: Ben Nevis and Càrn Mòr Dearg. We recommend only fit and experienced walkers, who have bagged a few Munros previously, take on this exceptionally challenging route, which involves some minor scrambling, a lot of huffing and puffing, and a tricky, technical section along the arête. This traverse along the arête is why we don’t recommend walking with dogs! However, if you bring your pup, it’s essential to keep them close due to the narrow path flanked by steep drops.

This route has a few turns and trail switches, making it essential to download a GPS before going! First, you’ll follow a few different trails before tackling the long ascent to Càrn Mòr Dearg. Revel in stunning views of Ben Nevis as you climb! After admiring the scenery from the top, get ready to tackle the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête, a phenomenal ridge section that will have your adrenaline pumping. This is one of the best ridge walks out there, so do whatever you can to soak in the experience.

Eventually, you’ll find yourself climbing boulders and traversing some scree sections on your way to Ben Nevis’ summit. Pat yourself on the back from reaching the top of the UK’s highest peak. From here, follow zigzags towards Lochan Meall an t’Suidhe and then Allt a’Mhuillin. Soon, you’ll reach the same path you came in on. From here, retrace your steps back to the car park.
