Crest Mountain Trail

Hiking up Crest Mountain is a strenuous affair with hikers traversing an elevation gain of 4167ft across a series of switchbacks that wind up the mountainside. Snowy conditions near the top of the trail can make for poor route finding, causing many hikers to turn back just shy of the summit. For those with the proper gear, such as crampons or microspikes, taking the extra time to locate the route will reward you with spectacular sights of the surrounding mountain peaks within Strathcona Provincial Park.

The trail begins in the area next to the Drum Lakes and immediately enters into a thick blanket of forest. Here, the route climbs uphill alongside a creek before veering off to the east on a route towards the summit. As you wind your way along the numerous switchbacks, you will eventually break out of the tree cover into some more exposed terrain providing some scenic views across the valley. After passing by a few small ponds, you will eventually reach the summit and have spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and mountains, including Big Den Mountain to the east and King’s Peak across the valley to the south. After taking in the views, carefully make your way back down the trail to return to your vehicle.
