Stimulating and impressively scenic along the way—there is no better hike in the Stanislaus National Forest. Not long after your departure will you reach an intersection at the Herring Creek Campground. Here, veer right, meandering through the campground and over Herring Creek. Gradually climbing this winding path will guide you east through mixed woodlands and meadows adorned with granite outcrops. At the next junction, you reach, keep right, and continue hiking south.

Here the path will plateau before dropping into a canyon before redirecting you east to Waterhouse Lake. Marvel in the beauty of the shimmering alpine lake hemmed by looming granite bluffs. Before you leave, rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters. When you are set, head back along the route the way you came.
