The Jane Austen Trail became famous as this literary genius once lived along the trail in a quaint house in the village of Chawton. The surrounding countryside invited creative inspiration and acted as a beautiful, relaxing setting for her to buckle down and write her books. This path showcases Jane Austen’s home as well as beautiful scenery amid the woodlands. The wooded areas can get muddy, so come prepared with proper walking boots.

Jane Austen Trail Description

The Jane Austen Trail is a wonderful walk that mixes gorgeous scenery with literary history. Beginning at Jane Austen’s House, which is now a museum, start walking through the woodlands full of yew trees, and you will arrive at Saint Nicholas Church. As you continue, you will have to navigate a few stiles and will wander through fields filled with cows and sheep. Moving on, you will arrive at the All Saints Church. Take a moment to admire this beautiful place!

As you wander on, you will come across the Meon Valley Railway, which is no longer in use, and you will follow this along the path. Maneuvering a few more kissing gates will bring you back to Jane Austen’s House, where your walk began.
