Chanctonbury Ring Walk Description
The Chanctonbury Ring Walk is a beautiful stroll that boasts views of the coast. Beginning at the Steyning Centre, follow the path and navigate several kissing gates. You will arrive at the South Downs Way, and you should pause a moment to take in the views of the coast here. Continuing on, you will come across the Chanctonbury Ring hilltop. This is a great place to have a picnic; however, as legend has it, the Devil offers people a bowl of soup in return for their soul, so if you are superstitious, possibly avoid soup!
As you continue through more gates, you will come across The Franklin Arms in Washington, where you can stop for refreshments. Continue on, where you will again pass through multiple stiles and gates, and you will arrive at the large slopes of the South Downs Ridge. Continue along the path until you reach the Steyning Centre, where you began.
