Mount Eddy via Deadfall Lakes Trail

The Mount Eddy via Deadfall Lakes Trail is a lovely expedition into the high country that offers unrivaled views of Mount Shasta from the summit. Along the way, you will be granted lovely scenes of the Deadfall lakes that decorate the mountain basin and boast the perfect opportunity to cool off on a hot summer’s day. Though this route is accessible year-round, winter excursions see extreme conditions, so make sure you are properly equipped. Dress in layers and wear a comfy pair of footwear—trust us.

Setting out from the Deadfall Meadow Trailhead, hikers will follow the Deadfall Lakes Trail southeast, gradually climbing into the mountain basin. Enjoy the scenery of the alpine meadowlands, and mind your footing on the alpine streams that intersect with the path. Eventually, you will reach the Dead Fall Lakes, and explore the shorelines of the postcard perfect waters. After admiring the crystalline lakes, continue climbing the Upper Dead Fall Meadows path and past several small, seasonal alpine pools. At the next junction, veer left onto the Mount Eddy Trail, and you will eventually reach the summit after navigating countless switchbacks.

Marvel in the 360-degree, panoramic vistas of the Klamath Mountains and the Cascade Range, and notice Mount Shasta dominating the skyline in the northeast. Appreciate the grandeur of the mountainous landscape, and when you are ready, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
