Marble Falls Trail Description

The Marble Falls Trail is an incredible adventure beckoning the exploration of intrepid explorers. Traveling through some of the most rugged terrain in the Sequoia National Park, this route demands stamina and proper equipment. Wear a pair of ankle bracing footwear to avoid a rolled ankle, and those with joint issues should consider trekking poles. Additionally, as much of the path is exposed to the elements, SPF is a must!

Compared to most routes in the area, this path is less traveled than most, though beautiful summer afternoons often draw a crowd. Especially on a warm day, the Kaweah River and the punch-bowl pool beneath the falls are tempting, though swimming here is not recommended. Swim at your own risk and be mindful of swift currents beneath the surface of the water. Additionally, the rocks that flank the river are slippery, so mind your footing! Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Exhibiting the area’s native flora and fauna, the Marble Falls Trail is a must-add to your hiking itinerary. Hike through dense communities of chaparral to the picturesque cascades. Explore carpets of wildflowers, including goldfields, blue dicks, poppies, lilies, and dozens of other seasonal blooms. In addition to beautiful vegetation, you may enjoy the opportunity to spot wildlife, such as deer, bears, marmots, lizards, and more.

Explore the great outdoors and get a wicked workout along the Marble Falls Hike. Wander through the rocky canyon and marvel at the scene of the looming granite monoliths. Offering a diversity of scenery, this taxing trek will keep you motivated with the sights of the unique landscape and will reward conquerors with a hypnotic cascade. The time you find yourself in the Sequoia National Forest, a detour to Marble Falls is well worth the effort.

After parking your vehicle in the car park across from the Potwisha Campground, you are set to begin your adventure along the Marble Falls Trail. Setting out from here, head north over Generals Highways and into the campground. Wander through the campground to the northwestern corner at campsite #16, where you will find the trailhead. Hike along the small road, and you will soon reach an intersection. Here, veer right, and you will be diverted onto the Marble Falls Trail.

Look out for poison oak as you climb through the chaparral, and the route will redirect you north. Hiking at a gradual incline along a dirt path in the craggy canyon, the route will intersect with several seasonal creeks running down the valley walls. As you wander, you will be hard-pressed to miss the impressive Switchback Peak towering above.

Enjoy the mountainscape that encompasses you as you travel through the rocky corridor, and you will be granted sporadic views of the waterfalls in the north and smaller cascades that adorn the river below. Navigating a few switchbacks, you will ultimately reach Marble Falls. The first cascades are smaller and incredibly scenic.

Mind your footing on the rocky terrain and enjoy the mesmerizing scenes of the billowing water. If the water is low and you are prepared to do a bit of scrambling, you can continue up to the Marble Falls—a charming cascade surging over the smooth granite. Enjoy the beauty of the craggy wilderness, and when you are ready, retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
