Thunder Mountain to Andante Trail Loop Description
The Thunder Mountain Trail and Andante Trail Loop might be just a few steps out of town, but it feels a world away. The views are unexpectedly beautiful for being so close to the city, but that’s the beauty of Sedona- you just have to look up to see the incredible natural beauty of the area.
This hike sees moderate traffic and is moderately difficult. If you want a longer adventure, you can use the connecting trails to extend your loop. Some hikers add on a loop of Chimney Rock. Remember to bring lots of water if you’re hiking when it’s hot out; this trail doesn’t offer very much shade.
From the trailhead, hike up to the junction near the foot of Chimney Rock and turn right. Skirt along the base of the rock to where the loop splits. Decide which way you want to go: clockwise (left) has you closer to the rock on the way out and closer to a residential street on the return trip. Counterclockwise (right) saves the more natural scenery for the return trip. Either way, you’ll complete your loop and return to the trailhead once you’re ready.
