Mystic, Peccary, and Hog Wash Loop Description
While many hikers come to this trailhead to hike Mystic Trail, adding a loop via Peccary and Hog Wash gives you more interesting desert scenery to enjoy. This loop is nearly flat, so it’s an easy pick for families and beginners.
While this is an easy trail, it can be hot between May and October. If you visit during these months, make sure you bring lots of water, sunscreen, and a hat.
From the trailhead, hike north on Mystic Trail. We like to go clockwise where the loop splits so the view of the Twin Buttes opens up ahead instead of behind you. Stay left at the split and then follow the route where it curves right towards the buttes. Turn right at the T and hike the path alongside West Twin Butte, which will take you back to the trailhead.

The well-known Chapel of the Holy Cross is just down the road from the trailhead. Stop by for a look!
